because i am not used to the arabic keyboards…i’m not going to use caps since they have a weird shift key. anyhow…i just spent all day today trying to get the internet and printer server running….i mean since like freaking two…i blew one of the surge convertors for the printer server…almost friend my computer in the process…and i was trying to hook everyone up onto the phone like for internet which just was not working…i hate the dial up modem. i couldn’t figure out earlier why the modem wouldn’t connect…professor bagnall said it was because of some protocol…i don’t think he really knows what he is talking about. then i realized i doubt he knows what is going on. i figured out it may have something to do with the internet conection speed…but it may have to do with the actually internet provider and the fact we are in the middle of the desert. i did find out that i am the only person here that knows anything about computers and im not very good at setting up servers…so here i am trying to figure out what is wrong…its 12:35 and then it dawns on me…the internet cords are fried…the ethernet jacks in the wall have faulty cords…so i had to move the computers around the stations. so pretty much…if i set the server up with internet…then all the computers may hop on the internet with the server. i am so tired though. i spent all last night unpacking…all today doing this computer thing…and i wasn’t able to take my 3 minute shower ;.;. i am going to be a very dirty girl tomorrow when i leave for my field trip to deir el haggar. the seminar was very interesting today though…it somehow encompassed an entire overview of what we will be studying. I didn’t work on any of the assignments though since i was too busy trying to figure this out. my roomate margaret is really neat. im glad im with her, she seems to have the same immature mindset. well not immature…free of nature and worry…a very free and open mind. we can pretty much talk about anything we want. i like that. i still think i need to warm up to the other girls though. I love the place we are living in. it is very beautiful. the air here is pretty cold, but i don’t find it to be that bad. its like camping in maine pretty much. everyone else is complaining…im glad im not in snow (though i may be regretting it later). I hope maine doesn’t have too much snow. the house is wonderful to live in. you wouldn;t think that a mud house would be this comfertable. there are manny courtyards, bathrooms, showers, a library, of course our computer room, a large dining area, and a wonderful roof to sit on. we also have a rather nice upstairs pourch and sitting lounge area, but due to the cold weather here, it probably won’t be in use for awhile. the dinners are wonderful too. our cook gabber is a wonderful chef and feeds us well…will i come back fat…i hope not…but the possibility is there for now…i am going to bed…i have much to do tomorrow(or today, whatever it is)…and little energy to do it on. i can only hope i get the network up on internet so we do not all fight over the some computer…and i can use my mac freely. And the shift key.
